Residence Halls

Winter break is December 20 - January 11

If you live in the residence halls, there are a few things to keep in mind before you leave.

  • Students are expected to leave 24-hours after their last final, and no later than 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 20 for students with finals on Wednesday
  • Graduating seniors attending graduation activities are able to stay through 1:00 pm on Friday, December 21 with the approval of their hall director
  • Students with academic-year plus break contracts are allowed to stay in their hall and will be sent an email with their dining information
  • Students returning for spring semester can leave belongings in their room
  • Students with open spaces in their room are expected to have the space ready for a new spring semester roommate. Roommate information will be emailed as it becomes available
  • Hall staff will be entering rooms over break for safety checks
  • Lock your windows and doors
  • Unplug your lights, computers and appliances (except your fridge) to conserve energy
  • Turn your heater to the low setting
  • Take out the recycling and garbage
  • Students NOT planning to return to CU for spring semester must do the following:
    • Fill out a mid-year departure form in the housing portal
    • Schedule a check-out with your RA to ensure you won’t be charged for spring housing

Start of spring semester

  • Halls open Friday, January 11 at 9:00 am
  • Students must check in at their hall community center and activate their Buff OneCard at a hot spot. This check-in is required to ensure HBOGo is reactivated for the spring
  • Classes start Monday, January 14 and all students must have checked into the halls by noon
  • Students who are no longer enrolled at CU for spring semester must do the following:
    • Fill out a mid-year departure form in the housing portal prior to January 9
    • Call Student Housing at 303.492.6673 to schedule a move-out and formal check-out
    • Move-out times will be available at no charge on January 10 for two-hour time slots, but must be scheduled in advance
    • Move-outs that occur after January 10 are subject to the contract terms and will accrue a daily rate fee until a formal check-out has occurred

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your hall director. We hope you enjoy your winter break. Go Buffs!
